Self-Enquiry 3

“Light”

Self-enquiry is honest enquiry of not only who you are, but also what you are.
Self-enquiry is also an honest enquiry into what objects, vegetation and animals are.

A further question that needs an honest self-enquiry is whether the egg came first or the egg-yolk and egg white came first.

It is paradoxical that when the meaning conveyed by knowledge is deeply understood by humans, the wisdom of egg, egg yolk and egg white by self-enquiry is revealed.

Scientific knowledge of elements reveals the wisdom of elements when the deep meaning of elements is understood by humans. Wisdom of the scientific knowledge of elements reveals that every atom of an element is light.

This wisdom signifies that light appeared as illusory elements first. Also that light appeared as different elements as well. It is impossible to determine the first element that appeared on earth.

The enlightened, due to self-enquiry, have rightly proclaimed that life is beginningless and endless. This signifies that any element on earth, albeit illusory, neither has a beginning nor an end.

This further implies that illusory elements appear as illusory matter. This signifies that particular elements appeared as an egg for individual animals and birds, including an egg for a chicken.

Since every atom of the eggshell and every atom of the egg yolk and egg white is light, it signifies that the light appeared as the eggshell first. The light within the eggshell appeared later as the egg yolk and the egg white as an illusion of light.

This signifies that an egg came first and the first egg expressed as a first chicken. The elements within the first chicken appeared as an egg in the chicken and the cycle was set in motion by the intelligence in life.

This signifies that egg yolk and egg white are a compressed egg and the egg is an expressed egg white and egg yolk. Similar to an egg is a compressed chicken and a chicken is an expressed egg.

The enlightened, due to self-enquiry, understand the wisdom of the further egg and chicken question. They, therefore, admire the intelligence of light and its expression in any moment. They do not expect it to be other than what it is in any moment.

Editor’s Note:
Self-enquiry no longer refers exclusively to a single, i.e. personal, expression. It refers to its expression in any moment of the whole, created world, as clarified in this article. Thus, light is being shone on the mystery of the expression ‘self-enquiry’. Such is the wisdom emanating from the deep understanding of the enlightened. There is no longer a knot in a batch of rope when the rope is unravelled.

German Translator’s Note:
Self-Enquiry is not a mesmerizing mantra-like repetition of the question “Who or what am I?“ as practiced in some spiritual circles. It is simply about the question: “How can man unconditionally trust life in every moment?” Trust is the result of understanding what man and the world really are. Dr. Shankar takes the example of a further egg and chicken question, which deals with the mysterious origin of chicken, egg, egg yolk and egg white. A seemingly unimportant question, when deeply enquired, reveals unconditional trust: an illusionary world needs no manipulation before it can be trusted, for manipulation would be just as illusory as the desired correction.
