A note:

Oneness and Advaita

Dr. Vijai S Shankar, Academy of Absolute Understanding

A void filled with shape, a blank page with words, a sky with movement, a silence with music, a presence with personality, a moment filled with life, a no-thing with some-thing. Such is the world of energy into which man is born, i.e. appears, and to which he awakens each day of his life – from no-thing to some-thing.

He looks at the world with wonder and delight. By and by, wonder transforms into curiosity to know: ‘why?’, ‘what is that?’, the delight into ‘I know’, with its attendant ‘I do’ and ‘I am’. Man has found an identity; he has raised a family; he has become qualified according to the regulations and customs of society; he has succeeded or failed in his own eyes and in the eyes of those who have become important entities in his world; he has lived and ultimately died in the company of ‘others’.

Man has, it seems, travelled from the unity of no-thing to the diversity of some-thing, from one to more than one, from singular to plural.

The whole environment of man’s perceived realities in which dualities exist are proclaimed to be the expression of light and sound – ‘Naada’ and ‘Bindu’. In spite of efforts to destroy the opposite of ‘good’, which is ‘bad’, and to rectify the opposite of ‘right’, which is ‘wrong’, man finds that opposites must co-exist, albeit in varying degree.

Though man practises and preaches to be a non-doer, and believes it, and every part of life suggests he cannot be the doer, he is convinced he is the doer, speaker and thinker. If life is a play of light and sound, an action, mind and an individual need to be illusory and not real. This is contradictory to what is preached and practised in the name of Oneness or Advaita.

Book launch 23 rd January 2010: ‘Evolution of Mind’

Julian Capper, United Kingdom

Mankind has always prided itself on its spirit of exploration, an enduring characteristic of men and women in all generations. Whether elated by the achievement of unimaginable goals or disappointed by failure to reach impossible targets, the courage to go further has never abated.

In all activities of intellect and raw endurance, man has never said ‘enough is enough’. Now, in the exploration of the very essence of mankind itself, life has come forth to gift the whole of humanity man’s real identity. This is hard to appreciate.

Hard too to appreciate at that time were the revelations of Charles Darwin, the naturalist, who gifted mankind his theory of evolution in the 19th century so that man might understand the world and its species. In this 21st century Dr. Vijai S Shankar gifts mankind a profound insight into the evolution of mind, so that man may traverse beyond the confines of mind.

This remarkable book, Evolution of Mind, contains 10 chapters, each divided into 10 subsections, in which the evolution and sophistication of the entire spectrum of man’s experience as a human being is examined in detail.

The author leaves no stone unturned to challenge man to dig deep into his own mind and embark on a journey beyond the mind – the journey into life. In every quest that man has undertaken, freedom has never been a permanent feature. The courage of man is put to the test yet again to cross the boundaries of mind - this time to discover permanent freedom. This book perhaps will make man realise that ‘this is enough’ - life’s map to enlightenment.

Comment: Article ‘Soul’

Julian, United Kingdom

There are so many solemn rituals in this world, uttered, written and engraved, wishing the departed person’s soul peace and bliss; maybe the beloved pet’s also. People seem to love the ritual as a personal comfort. There is no offence in this article.

Comment: Article ‘Oneness’

Julian, United Kingdom

Strange thing that the desire for reality is thwarted by the effort to find it, and the means of finding it that are widely available actually keep man frustrated - nice trick. Rather, understand the illusion and there is the reality. Strange thing also that the mind at some point is deliberately engaged to live through the day rather than allowing the day to unfold.

Comment: Article ‘Emptiness’

Julian, United Kingdom

Once again, with unfailing accuracy, Dr Shankar goes to the very heart of man's dilemma. Compelled by the power of illusory mind to pursue means of obtaining emptiness, and thus shaking off what is unwanted, man finds, if he is so fortunate, that he has merely covered what he yearns for - it already exists.

Comment: Article ‘To be enlightened- why man cannot do it’

Julian, United Kingdom

This is a beautiful article gently guiding man homewards. In understanding lies reality, which is found neither in time nor in space nor in any personal striving.

Comment: Article ‘Time, man and elements

Julian, United Kingdom

Every one of us is totally immersed in the life we lead and take to be real. We know no better and we can know no better save for the gift of wisdom and the endowments of a realised being. We are overjoyed when ‘things’ work out as we would wish: when plans are realised, when the books show a healthy profit, when we can procure what makes us really happy and excited. We are dejected when ‘things’ do not work out: when expectations fail, when debts mount, when we are concerned about having even basic necessities. We resort to the services of the cause- and effect-related experts around us – at a price! Let us open our ears and eyes, as it were, to life itself and leave the mind to its own ways.

Comment: Book ‘Fire’

Kirti, Germany

Hello Barbara, everything o.k. concerning FIRE. thanks!
The Talks of Dr. Shankar are - as always - very inspiring. But what sometimes is annoying, are the awfully bad transcriptions of the talks. As I have been reading so far, almost in every page there are some unapprehensabilities, because there are words in the sentences, which only sound like that, which, following the context, apparently has been said. The people who transcribed it, appear to be either have much time-pressure, or
are not very focussed while working or they are not able to understand the English language rightly...No offence meant - my critical comments. Perhaps next time it will be done more diligently, which would be appropriate for it...Love.

Response: Dr. Shankar

The text is kept as original as possible. Not all who write to Guruji or transcribe for him are English grammar savvy or know correct English. Guruji does not know German language, but the word "unapprehensabilities" does not exist in the English language. Therefore it is wise not to criticize or judge. On the other hand, it is wise to offer help.

Comment: Chapter ‘Attachment’ from book KG 7

Diny, Maastricht

Today we were together with the reading-group and we have read the chapter of

Attachment. To me this chapter was very beautiful. You explained so deeply how attachment takes its form. It let me see how many  ‘mines ’ and boundaries there still are. So beautifully explained that everything belongs to Life, comes and goes by transformation. What precious message You have for humanity. Blessed.

Thanks to Miria Karin Jende, that this summer gave me a book of Dr.Shankar wisdom, that made me feel that this is the absolute understanding. Thank you Dr. Shankar

Comment: Kaivalya Gita 1 and 2

Mark Saunders, United Kingdom

I have been reading KG 1 & KG 2 over the last 4 months and they have been life changing. My resent order of KG 1, KG 2 and the CDs "Known" and "Guilt" are a gift to an old friend (the man who introduced me to the S.E.S. in the late 70's). I can speak for hours to people but nothing changes, but to a man who understands these CDs and Books, the world can never be the same. Please convey to the Doctor my gratitude for KG 2 and please encourage him to keep going deeper.

Comment: KG 7

Ruth, Munich, Germany

Just finished KG 7. I must sit down behind my PC to thank you! It is wonderful, very deep book full of wisdom! Reading again and again all KG's 1 - 7 it seems to bring much more openness to the wisdom of life. I always take with me in my handbag one of your books so that I am always able to re-read during every pause, a chapter of it. So, thank you, thank you, thank you forever....
