Awakening (8)

“Process”

Understand that for anything to happen, to perceive, to recollect, to identify you require time. Numerical duration of time is nothing but movement. Now understand the fallacy of the mind as to how it deceives you.

The movement of the second hand needle on a watch, which gives rise to numerical duration of time, requires time to exist. Where will you put this movement? You have to put this movement into time in order to perceive the movement of numerical duration of time.

Time too should be present to perceive the movement of numerical duration of time. But the movement of numerical duration of time does not exist as a physical actuality.

Understand that numerical duration of time is not measured in life. Understand that numerical duration of time is a definition of time. Understand that numerical duration of time exists as a thought only in the human mind.

Understand that, if numerical duration of time is a non-existent movement, it only means that the two points of movement, which are beginning and end, are not there either.

Understand that, if two points are not there, what is there is only one point in time, which has no numerical duration of time. Understand that that is why the wise say: your life is a circle because a circle is nothing but points joined together.

Understand that a point, which becomes many points, means either a circle or a straight line. Understand that, to knowledge, life is linear - one moment after another moment, to mean that the moment before is not the same as the next moment.

Understand that, to knowledge, life is due to cause and effect, which are in separate moments. This means that, to knowledge, life is linear.

Understand that, to wisdom, life is whole because in between one moment and the next is moment as well. Understand that, to wisdom, before and after is the same moment.

Understand that, to wisdom, life is not due to cause and effect because cause and effect are in the same moment. Understand that wisdom reveals that there is neither beginning nor end. This means that, to wisdom, life is whole.

When the wisdom of time and the wisdom that life is whole and that you are not the doer because there is neither cause nor effect in life, which is whole, happens to you, you will be in the awakening process of life towards enlightenment.

The enlightened realise that life is whole and not linear.

Editor’s Note:
‘‘I’m late, I’m late for a very important date. No time to say ‘hallo’ ‘goodbye’ – I’m late, I’m late, I’m late’’ said the fictitious, white rabbit as he examined his time-piece. His way of life reflects man’s dependence, illusory though not fictitious, on time. In knowledge, the utility of the concept of time in programming a human being’s daily life and activities in a measured fashion is accepted universally. In wisdom, there is no ‘early’ or ‘late’, no ‘start’ or ‘finish’. The wise are revealing here that life is a circle. The wise are revealing here that life has no beginning and no end. Sharing the understanding of the wise is awakening to enlightenment.

German Translator‘s Note:
Simple and clear in this article Dr. Shankar reveals the impossibility of causality in life and thus places causality in the illusory mind! To live life as a whole does not mean to believe that "everything is connected", which would mean causality, but that there is no real separation in life. Before and after is ONE moment that reflects the illusion of diversity and numerical time duration. The insight of this article is beyond the imagination of the conditioned mind. A spontaneous evolution of the individual is necessary for wisdom to be truly and deeply understood. May it happen to the reader if the moment flows in this manner.
