Conviction (5)

“Belief”

Understand that your convictions of daily life go on. You understand the convictions of daily life through the meaning of words present in the context of the convictions.

Understand that life has manifested the words in the context of the convictions in the mind as illusions of sound. This is the conviction of the wise and it is irrefutable.

You have not understood as yet that you come to know an action, come to know an event and come to know a situation only after they have happened. The mind also knows what should happen.

Understand that the action, the event and the situation which have passed, you cannot see in front of you. How could you know what should happen?

You think you know what should happen because you think you saw what happened right in front of you. This is your conviction, but what has happened is not there in front of you.

Understand that you have never seen an action, event and situation from beginning to end. Understand that you think an action, event and situation, while all there is in front of you is a singular movement. This is irrefutable conviction of the wise.

You have not understood as yet that an action, event and situation are in the mind as thoughts and not as a physical actuality in the mind or in life. You are going about the action, event and situation in the mind and not in life.

Understand that an action, event and situation are in the mind. Understand that in the mind too an action, event and situation are exactly in the same way as they are not in life.

Understand that action, event and situation in the mind are as thoughts of words. Understand that in the mind sound is as word and thought.  Understand that in life in every moment there is only light and sound.

Understand that particular sounds of letters put together make a word or thought in the mind. Understand that in the mind an action, event and situation are exactly in the same way as they are in in life, which is only a movement of light and sound.

Understand that an action, event and situation are neither present in life, nor in the mind. That is why man is neither patient nor has trust in life. The wise understand that life is a singular movement of light and sound. This is irrefutable conviction.

The enlightened are patient and trust life.

Editor’s Note:
The words of the wise are enlightening and powerful in clearing forests of convictions that inhabit man’s febrile mind. Every moment of every day, when he is awake, man sees what is in front of him as a practical guide to living or to assessing whatever may be seen. These convictions are illusory; they are not as mind understands for they are not in life. In the illusory realm of man’s convictions, gifted by the intelligence of life ( for there is no other donor), man may devote a lifetime’s work. Words that a man or woman uses in daily employment, however important or trivial they may be, are illusions, as revealed in this article. Understanding this is the beginning of patience and trust.

German Translator‘s Note:
The news of the day is made up of words, the conclusions about it are made up of words. But words are not present in life. Life, as Dr. Shankar shows us again and again, is not what the mind thinks it is. Because the words in the mind feign duality, the mind can never trust unconditionally, because duality means to set opposites against each other and to decide. Mind does not trust; not itself, not the other, not life. But unconditional trust is what the wise point to when, as in this article, the mind is revealed as pure illusion.
