Conviction (8)

“Belief”

Understand that you cannot see action, event or situation though the mind is saying you can. The mind has convinced you that you are seeing. First be clear what is seeing and what is hearing.

Understand that seeing is light. Hearing is sound. Understand that seeing and hearing are together and not separate, just as light and sound are together and not separate.

Your conviction is that you have seen an action, an event and a situation. Deep conviction of seeing and hearing reveals that you cannot see action, event or a situation.

Even after understanding that you cannot see an action, event or situation you still think about what should happen. This is your conviction. Understand that even if what should happen happens, you will not be able to see it.

Understand that because you do not see what should happen, many emotions are experienced by you which either please or disturb you. Understand that should happen is what happens every moment in life, which is just light and sound. This is irrefutable conviction.

Understand that you think you see action, event and situation after it has passed into the past and also the thought of it has passed into the past. Understand that, in the present, there is only light and sound, which is seeing and hearing.

Understand that when what should happen happens, you think that it has happened in front of you and that when what should happen happens, you only know it as what has happened.

So the actions, events and situations are only a shunting process of light and sound as thoughts from the future to the past. The present is missed because there is only light and sound in the present moment, which is the ‘here and now’.

Your conviction is that real actions, events and situations pass through the present into the past. Understand that if an event or situation were real in the present, it would not go into the past because the real is permanent.

A wise man and woman understand that neither the past nor the future is seen by them.  A wise man and woman understand that in the present moment, which is here and now, there is only seeing light and hearing sound and that what is seen and heard are illusions of light and sound.

The enlightened realise that daily life is illusions of light and sound.

Editor’s Note:
In wisdom, enlightened beings share their understanding of life in their compassion for the plight of mankind. Wisdom never ages. Wisdom is never out of date. Wisdom does not know time nor its traditional limits of past, present and future. What it is being gifted in this article is for every living man and woman in every generation, without regard for  particular circumstance. Wisdom never passes, nor knows any end. The man and woman who happens to read this article is blessed. May patience and trust evolve gradually, if it is meant to.

German Translator‘s Note:
The daily actions, events and situations disturb or satisfy the human mind. The conditions for satisfaction are manifold. They never end. Belief in cause and effect fires hopes and fears alike. The wise, like Dr. Shankar in this article, with their insights into the singular flow of life, free man from the carousel of the mind. The mind may continue to spin in circles for a while, sometimes more, sometimes less, until it finally calms down. A new conviction has been established: That what the mind says about life is not life. This is the gift of life to the reader of the article series "Conviction", if that is how it is meant to be.
