Fifth Season (6)

“Mind”

You do not always recognise your live wife in front of you; you do not always recognise your live husband in front of you. You do not! You only want a husband or wife who is not always in front of you.

Some type of different husband you want. Some type of different wife you want. Not the one who is always in front of you. Understand that you cannot have another season than the season which is in front of you.

Similarly, you cannot have another wife or husband than the wife or husband who is in front of you. Even if you change the husband or the wife, you will yet again not recognise and you will want another one. Understand that you cannot change the season that is in front of you.

Therefore, recognise the wife who is in front of you in every moment because she cannot be any other than who she is in any moment. Therefore, recognise the husband who is in front of you in every moment because he cannot be any other than who he is in any moment.

My wife should be like that. My husband should be like that. Something is happening here because, always, all your wants are in the future. This future may or may not come as the present, just as the weather in any season, which you want, may or may not be in the present.

Understand that you accept every season in the present and in the future. You never reject the season which is in the present or in the future. Similarly, never reject the husband or wife who is in the present or in the future.

Furthermore, because the present or future which you want never comes, you are sad. There is no reason to be sad because everything that is in the present or will be the future cannot be other than what it is.

The future has already happened to you now. Tomorrow has happened now because only a moment happens and not a tomorrow. But somehow you want that tomorrow which will never happen now.

The tomorrow, which is a moment, has happened to you now because only a moment happens every moment - and you do not want it. You ask for tomorrow right here and it is right in front of you here, because you think tomorrow will be better than the moment which is today.

Understand that weather in any season in any moment will be what it is and cannot be other than what it is. Understand that the mind in any moment will be what it is and cannot be other than what it is.

The enlightened live every moment and accept the mind as it is. They also accept every season as it is.

Editor’s Note:
There is no escape from the moment that is now, nor from whatever the moment contains. The mind has no power to deliver your wants or your needs nor the power to reject what you do not want. Thoughts of avoiding or changing what is present in any moment keep every man and every woman sad and frustrated. The wise reveal the simplicity of life and its immediacy: the integrity of the moment and its timeless presence. Gratitude for this gift of light.

German Translator‘s Note:
Man thinks he chooses his wife or his husband. Of course, one looks for the right partner. You find each other and live life together, but after some time you realize that the expectations are not fulfilled. Some stay together nevertheless, others separate, hoping to find the right one after all. What Dr. Shankar shows in this article is the explanation for all the problems in the partnership or marriage: 1. No one chooses a partner himself, life brings the two together and then separates them again, as it is meant to happen. 2. Those who want to live together happily and contentedly must understand that the other person is not meant to fulfill their own expectations. 3) A partnership is an opportunity to understand that the other is in every moment what he or she is meant to be.
With this understanding, there are no problems in the partnership or elsewhere, even if things do not go the way you would like them to. It reveals being with life as it is, in the form of a man or woman.
