Process

“Unfolding”

Process means a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. This definition of process is knowledge supported by reason and logic. It is accepted by every educated human being.

The wise with wisdom, however, understand a process in a deeper sense, which is supported by irrefutable, deep reason and logic as well. So what is the understanding of a process by the wise, is the question?

Firstly, ageing is an unfolding process and the process of ageing happens every moment. There is never a moment in life wherein the ageing process does not happen.  A moment in life happens every moment and man does not make the moment in life to happen.

Man does not make the moment in life, because the moment in life manifested vegetation and animals much before the intelligence in life manifested man in the moment.

This implies that the moment unfolds continuously. This signifies that the process of ageing is continuous and the process is not a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve the end of ageing, because in any moment there is only a movement and not an action. The movement in the moment is the ageing.

The ageing process signifies that every step or action unfolds in the moment by itself and, since there is only movement in each moment, every step or action in ageing is only an unfolding movement that happens by itself. Man cannot make ageing happen to him.

This signifies that every step and action that happens is an unfolding process of movement and the process of a step or action will happen, if it is meant to happen. Man cannot make either a step or an action happen because man does not make the moment.

This signifies that everything that happens in life is an unfolding process, which is a singular movement and neither a step nor an action as an actuality. The growth of vegetation is a continuous, unfolding process, which is a singular movement and neither a step nor an action as an actuality. The step and action in growth are included in the singular movement of growth.

Similarly, the flowering and blossoming of flowers and the growth of grains are a continuous, unfolding process, which is a singular movement and neither a step nor an action as an actuality. The step and action as functions are included in the singular movement of function.

The ripening of fruits is a continuous, unfolding process, which is a singular movement and neither a step nor an action as an actuality. The step and action in ripening is included in the singular movement of ripening.

Human behaviour is a continuous, unfolding process, which is a singular movement and neither a step nor an action as an actuality. The step and action in behaviour is included in the singular movement of behaviour.

The understanding of either knowledge or wisdom is a continuous, unfolding process, which is a singular movement and neither a step nor an action as an actuality. The step and action in understanding is included in the singular movement of understanding.

Therefore, the awakening into enlightenment is a continuous, unfolding process, which is a singular movement and neither a step nor an action as an actuality. The step and action in awakening is included in the singular movement of awakening. Man cannot bring about the awakening process.

The enlightened have rightly proclaimed that enlightenment will happen if it is meant to happen and man cannot make enlightenment happen to him.

Editor’s Note:
The mind of man may expend energy in developing plans for his or her life - and also for children and associates - that require steps to be identified and taken. This takes the shape, albeit illusory, of a process that involves setting and meeting targets. The appearance of the plan, including the intention, are gifted by the intelligence of life. So too is the deep realisation of a process as wisdom, presented here by Dr. Shankar. There is no intention or target in the wisdom of process; no effort by man. Understanding this is the dawning of unconditional love.
