Singular Movement (2)

“Optical and Auditory”

Every man and woman believes and is convinced that life is made up of several actions, each separate from the other. They, therefore, believe that life cannot be a singular movement. Superficial reason and logic imply that man and woman are right.

The enlightened, however, have proclaimed, based on deep reason and logic, that life is a singular movement.  So what could this wise understanding of the enlightened be is the question?

The moment in daily life gives a clue to the understanding that not only daily life is a singular movement, but also the entire life is a singular movement.

Now, every moment in daily life cannot be separate from the next moment because, in between the moment and the next in daily life, there is also a moment present.

This signifies that the moment in daily life is eternal and a division between moments in daily life is not an actuality. The eternal moment is a mystery and so too the moment that is not actual.

Now, a moment in daily life is similar to a dot of ink on a paper. When a pen is placed on the paper and lifted, a dot appears on the paper. When the same procedure is repeated next to the dot, another dot appears on the paper.

If the pen placed on the paper is not lifted off the paper, but is dragged on for some distance on the paper, a singular line appears written on the paper. This implies that all the dots are together and the inseparable dots make a singular line.

Similarly, in every moment in daily life, there is a movement, because daily life is in constant, spontaneous, uncontrollable and unpredictable movement. Therefore, the movement present in a moment in daily life cannot be separate from the movement that is present in the next moment.

This signifies that daily life is a singular movement, just as inseparable dots of ink on paper make a singular line.

When deep understanding of the moment in everyday life cements, man and woman will understand that not only their everyday life is a singular movement, but also everyone’s everyday life is a singular movement.

They will understand as well that everyone’s singular movement of daily life is not identical with anyone’s singular, daily life. And that everyone’s singular movement of daily life is included in the singular movement of the entire life.

Editor’s Note:
The waking life of every human being is attended by actions in its entirety. Some actions have been planned and anticipated, some have not. Sufficient energy is provided by the intelligence of life to manage the daily course. We rely on this energy until our day is done.  The guidance of enlightened beings is being gifted in these articles to understand the course of our lives. Gradually, our conviction in the reality of illusion is dissolved as the transforming light of wisdom strengthens in us. As each moment is a singular movement in eternity, so each life is a singular life in eternity. Gratitude to the author for this wisdom.

German Translator‘s Note:
The worst word for parents who are convinced that the child speaks by their own power and will is the word "NO!" Children do not always do what parents expect them to do. Adapting the actions of the child to the wishes and expectations of parents, teachers and society is considered education. But only those who understand that to the child saying “No” happens in the same way as saying “Yes”, can love their child unconditionally. Then a family life of togetherness develops, which takes place beyond "education" and whose only guideline is unconditional love. In such a family, the singular movement of life flows free of the conditioned conceptions of the mind, which make separate actions out of the single movement involving all the movements of all individuals. Dr. Shankar's article "Singular Movement 2" has far-reaching implications for daily life if you understand its core deeply.
