“Mystery of particular Sound”
Deep understanding of knowledge reveals wisdom, which is what the enlightened have pointed that daily life is an illusion of light and sound. A word in any language is a clue to this wisdom.
Knowledge is made up of words and wisdom too is made up of words. A word is likewise made up of letters in the alphabet of a particular language.
Therefore, deep understanding of a word in knowledge reveals wisdom of the word in a particular language. The wisdom of a word in a particular language is a mystery of a particular sound.
A word in any language is a mystery of a particular sound because, firstly, a word is made up of letters in an alphabet placed one after the other in a particular order. If the order is chaotic, the sounds of letters do not form a word with meaning.
Secondly, each letter in an alphabet is a phoneme, meaning a unit of a particular sound heard in a particular language and not any sound that is heard. This indicates that a word in any language is a mystery of sound.
It also indicates that it is a mystery how each sound as a letter is followed by the next sound, which is a precise letter as well, to form a word. This mystery is due to the intelligence of life and this mystery of sound is known as a word by the intellect present in humans.
The mystery of a particular sound as a word in any language also includes the moment in life. This means that even the moment in which the particular sound appears is a mystery as well.
Why the moment in which a word in any language is present is a mystery needs to be understood as well. The smallest unit of time present is one zepto second, which is one trillionth of a billionth of a second.
A moment in life, however, happens faster than this unit of time. A complete phoneme of any sound, however, needs more time than a zepto second to appear in the moment.
This indicates that only a fraction of sound is present in any moment of life. This signifies that only a fraction of a letter in any word is present in the moment. This indicates that it is a mystery how not only a letter but also a word in any language appears in the human mind.
It also indicates that only a fraction of any sound is present in the moment in life, but yet appears as a complete sound to the human mind. This is the mystery of a particular sound that appears as a particular word in any language.
The enlightened have pointed that daily life is an illusion of light and sound to indicate that daily life, which the mind thinks is real, is not real, but only appears to the human mind to be real.

Editor’s Note;
Mystery has been a fascination for men and women of all ages throughout time. It has excited creative imaginations and countless stories that have been told and retold. Yet it cannot be what is known; it cannot be what is explained; it cannot be what is described: it is a mystery. However, what can be known, what can be explained, what can be described appears as words before the intellect in human beings. The word ‘Man’ too is the appearance of a particular sound before the intellect present in humans. Such is the play of light and sound as words in daily life, as revealed by the deep understanding of the wise.

German Translator’s Note:
Only a single word can disturb a human being so much! One not so nice word of the partner, the child or anybody. Words convey opinions and see how important opinions have become to modern man in every household! That words are a mystery of sound is a revelation of inner peace for everyone of us who is willing and able to listen and read and understand this wise article by Dr. Shankar.

Dutch translator’s note:
The enlightened proclaim that daily life is an illusion of light and sound. But how can this be understood when everything in our life seems so real, like the words we speak and hear? Dr. Shankar explains clearly in this article why words are illusory and shows us that the appearing of words in the mind is a mystery. In reality there is sound, but in the mind there is a word and this is the illusion that seems so real to us.
