Article: ‘Worry and Problem’

By Dr. Vijai S Shankar
Man is worried and it is a problem to him when something does or does not happen. He is equally worried and it is a problem to him when there is something he does or does not do, but yet it happens. Man is certain that he did not do certain things and believes that they have either happened or somebody has done them. Everyone believes the same. This implies that there is always something, which man has not done, but yet it happens. Now, is there a definitive cut-off point between what man does not do, but yet it does happen and what he does do and it does not happen either? There could never be such a definitive cut-off point because, if there were such a point, man would know what would happen and what would not happen.

Comments: ‘Worry and Problem’

Julian Capper, UK
There is a word in the English language borrowed from the ancient Greek – dilemma. It has a more modern equivalent – between a rock and a hard place. The belief that man is often faced with having to choose between two solutions to an issue facing him is founded on the conviction that he is the doer. So he has a dilemma, a problem to solve. Even when he or she, as he firmly believes, has made the decision, he may still be worried as to whether it is the right decision – even years later. Patience and trust are gifted to man in his life for whatever comes his way. This article and this understanding from the wise has come his way. Patience and trust are always present for man, undemanding and silent.

Marcus Stegmaier, Munich
Worries and problems are everywhere in the mind of man. They hit us suddenly, they linger around and are never completely gone, because when one problem has faded away, the next one surely pops up later. Expectations and hopes about what someone does or does not are the main reason for worries and problems. Welcome life the way it is meant to happen, with all the good things and bad things that happen (and only appear to be done by man!). The enlightened are aware that good and bad deeds are thoughts in the mind, not a reality in life. In order to help the reader understand worries and problems in relation to the illusion of man as a doer, Dr. Shankar gives important clues for pondering in the article “Worry and Problem“.

Letters to AOA:

Julian, England
Thank you for the November newsletter –  gratitude, not just from here, but from all those fortunate enough to receive its gift. The universal embrace of all that is presented knows no boundaries and there will be no clouds that may cover the sun of wisdom that is both timeless and endless. It belongs to every soul that has lived, is living and is yet to live. May the calming presence of this play of light and sound heal and enliven.

Marcus, Germany
Note to the DVD “Thinking“ (Dubai Feb 27th, 2004):
The ego is Maya, illusion, and lives in thoughts and emotions as real. The ego wants to be in control in every situation. As long as everything runs according to one's own wishes, expectations and demands, the ego is happy and satisfied and full of praise for all involved. But if, in all the efforts and endeavours to gain control, expectations are not met, the human mind and emotions inevitably get out of control and blame, condemnation, anger, rage and dejection are inevitable. This is the power of the illusion that man is the doer, speaker and thinker. If, on the other hand, man gradually understands that life happens in every moment, albeit illusory, as it is meant to happen, then he does not lose his temper in any situation, but lives as a witnesser in the timeless Here and thoughtless Now. Such a person spontaneously becomes an example of perfect self-control, without the slightest effort on his part. This is the power of unconditional trust in life. The Enlightened understand Maya, the illusion of thoughts and emotions, and live Life as it is, with unconditional love, full of unshakable peace and in mysterious freedom.

Dear Guruji.
What a beautiful article in the last 'words of wisdom'  wherein You make us understand that every emotion we experience is life as it is and will be constant until it is no more as it was. Thank You.

Sigrid, Munich.
Dear Guruji,
Just read the quote on the AOA website: "It may or may not happen. You can never say when it may or may not happen." I just love these words. They remind me of the limitless probabilities in the mind which are no necessities. Life flows only one way without alternatives or rehearsals....... and always in the moment as it is. My deepest trust and eternal praise to this magnanimous intelligence, this supreme power that keeps us alive. With all my love and gratitude

Sigrid, Munich.
Good morning dear Guruji, Hope this finds you well. I listened to the Cd 'NOW' and it hit me tremendously in several aspects. The understanding that we cannot possess anything because we are already owned by existence, brings in clarity what happens to the mind when it wants to do, to talk or to possess. You explain so beautifully this three types of the mind and how we are always missing the now and its signals. We are already owned by life and all the senses operate through the body by life. This life is always in the Now, in front of us and there is nothing but emptiness. The now is a mystery and everything comes out it. You are addressing the question: 'Why does the ego fail to understand a mysterious happening? Why can't reasoning fit into the mystery?' It is elaborated precisely and distinctively  that the mystery as the very foundation has given birth to reasoning and the part cannot explain  the whole though reasoning is mystery too. What an awesome mystery! This Cd is a powerful pointer and door opener to understand mind and life more deeply. Thank you! Thank you for your unconditional love, care and concern. With best wishes  and warmly regards
